FULL DAY SIGHTSEEING TOUR OF PERGAMON (BERGAMA) FROM IZMIR

This town is 100 kilometers from north of Izmir. Pergamon is the site of one of Turkey's oldest settlements and civilizations. The area contains archaeological artifacts of world significance belonging to the Ionian, Roman and Byzantine periods, dating back to before the beginning of recorded history. We visit the Acropolis upon arrival. Among the ruins are; castle walls, Pergamon Library; one of the most important academic centers of the world where at one time 200,000 parchment scrolls were kept; Trayanus Temple built in the 2nd century A.D., Acropolis Theater, Dionysus Temple and many others. After our optional lunch in the downtown of Bergama we visit Asclepion; still standing in Asclepion today are the remains of the columns and foundation of the health centre built in the name of Asclepion - the god of health- and used as a healing center for seven hundred years. We visit Ascplepion Temple, Theater, Main Treatment Center and many others. Learn more about how the ancient people were healed. Drive back to Izmir.
